Phishing Scam: 1/21/14

Please be advised that we have been notified of a phising scam that was popular back in 2010/2011 and has resurfaced as early as yesterday. It is presented to the customer in a zip file type email and once opened a file is dropped on the customer’s pc and captures data.

Target Issues Phishing Warning

On Christmas Eve, Target issued a warning about phishing scams linked to its breach recovery efforts. In response, the retailer says it is launching a dedicated resource page on its website for official communications.

The dedicated resource page can be found on their corporate website where they will post PDFs of all official communications sent to their guests, as to confirm the messages are authentic.

New Scam Alert: 8/13/2013

Please be advised that we have been notified of new telephone scam. The scam involves fraudsters posing as Medicare officials who call consumers and say they're updating or verifying personal information. The consumers are even told that they might face some sort of consequence if they don't comply.

We expect this healthcare scam to become more popular as The Affordable Care Act start date of October 1st approaches. Please DO NOT furnish them with any account or other personal information.

If you have received one of these calls and have given any personal or account information over the phone, please contact us at 1-800-642-7515 immediately, so we can protect your account information.




Text Scam Alert: 6/18/2013

Please be advised that we have been notified of text scam from US Direct. The text states that members need to call 1-514-316-2010.  Once the number is called, it tells you that your credit card/debit card has been given a credit limit due to a technical error and to enter your card number. Please DO NOT furnish them with any account or other personal information.

If you gave any personal, CheckCard or account information over the phone, please contact us at 1-800-642-7515 immediately, so we can protect your account information. First Citizens’ will never request any personal information (such as account numbers, passwords, PINS, or Social Security Numbers, etc.) through a text message, over the phone or through an unsecured email.

Please be advised that we have been notified of phone debit card scam. If you receive a phone call from 285-652-7903 (or any other number)- stating that your First Citizens’ debit card has been canceled, please DO NOT furnish them with any account or other personal information.

Popmoney® has been upgraded!

As you may know, The Popmoney personal payment service lets you send money to friends, family or anyone at all. Now you can also Request Money. This new and convenient feature enables you to request money from friends, family members and others using their email address or mobile phone number. It will allow you to request funds from individuals or groups for things like club membership dues, fundraising, shared expenses and even rent from roommates. To start using this new feature, log into online banking, go to bill pay and then click on the Popmoney tab.

To help make managing your money even more convenient, in mid- January you will be able to access Popmoney right from your mobile phone. This will give you the ability to send or request money, view activity and add contact from your mobile phone – anytime, anywhere.
