Why a Credit Union?

If you're in the market for a new place to hold your deposit accounts, mortgage or loans, you may want to consider joining a credit union in your area vs a bank. Credit union's overall mission is to improve the financial well-being of their members and also serve the communities they live in. Credit unions are also known to provide reasonable rates to their members and provide loans for small businesses that might be denied by larger banks. Banks and credit unions both serve many of the same purposes and offer similar products. Although the product offerings are similar, a credit union may use different terms for its accounts and features than banks. For example, because a credit union’s customers are member-owners, the credit union pays “dividends” instead of “interest.”

If you choose to do your banking with a federally insured credit union, you will also benefit from the credit union equivalent of FDIC insurance. The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) provides federal insurance on up to $250,000 of qualifying deposits per depositor, per insured credit union, for each account ownership category, in the event of a credit union failure.

If you like the idea of your banking relationship being with a non-profit organization that supports your community with volunteerism as well as financial support, then a credit union may be the right choice for you!

Important Information About Procedures for Opening a New Account

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money-laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. What this means for you: when you open an account, we will ask for name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents.
